Which paid advertising channel should you start with in the UAE
How to choose between Google, Microsoft, Meta, LinkedIn, Snapchat and TikTok advertising for a first paid channel: goal, intent, targeting, creative, budget and measurement.
Short answer
Start from the goal and the person you need to reach, not the platform. Google Search ads are text ads aimed at people actively looking, LinkedIn lets you target by job title, function and industry, Meta and TikTok let you target by demographics and interests, and TikTok publishes a minimum daily budget of $50 on the page I opened. Score the channels yourself with the picker.
Most first channel choices are made on habit: the channel a competitor seems to be on, or the one an agency happens to sell. That is a poor basis for the first few months of spend. Below is the order I would work in if I were the buyer, covering Google, Microsoft, Meta, LinkedIn, Snapchat and TikTok.
A note on who is writing. This site is published by Web Marketing International FZCO, which sells paid advertising management, and I would like you to read this knowing that. The method does not rank channels. You score them yourself on criteria you weight yourself, with the paid channel picker. Every statement of fact about a platform comes from that platform’s own pages, opened on 4 November 2026, and platforms change these pages often.
Write down the goal and the buyer
Before comparing platforms, write two sentences: what action you want (a call, a form, a sale, an app install) and who has to take it (a facilities manager, a parent, a company finance director). The goal decides which objectives you will use. Meta describes its objectives in terms of business goals, such as sales, traffic and leads, and says to choose the one closest to your overall marketing goal[5]. TikTok groups its objectives into awareness, consideration and conversion, with Lead Generation and Conversion among them[12]. Snapchat lists App Downloads, Online Sales, Lead Generation and Brand Awareness[8]. LinkedIn says each campaign begins by choosing objectives across awareness, consideration or conversions[7]. If your goal is a phone call to a clinic, an awareness objective is the wrong starting point on any of them.
Search against discovery
The biggest structural difference between these channels is how the person meets your ad. Google describes Search campaigns as text ads on search results that target people actively looking for what a business offers[1]. Microsoft describes its search ads the same way, reaching users searching on Bing, Yahoo, DuckDuckGo and other search engines[4]. In both cases the person has typed something, so the ad is an answer to a question they asked.
Meta, Snapchat and TikTok work differently. Meta says its ad auction looks for people who are more likely to take an action related to your objective, across Facebook, Instagram and Messenger[5]. TikTok describes its ads as full-screen and sound-on[11]. Those channels put your message in front of someone who was not necessarily looking for you. That can create demand, but you carry more of the work of making the message interesting. My view, which is a view and not a platform statement, is that a business whose customers already search for its service should usually look at search first, and a business whose customers do not yet know the category exists has a stronger case for discovery channels.
Targeting you actually need
Write down how you would describe your buyer, then see which platform lets you say it. LinkedIn states that you can target by job title, function, industry and more, from over 20 audience attribute categories[7]. That is the clearest published match for a business that sells to named roles in companies. Meta lists interests, age, gender and location among its targeting options[6]. TikTok states that you can target by demographics, interests, behaviours and devices, and create Custom and Lookalike Audiences[11]. Snapchat lists standard targeting (location and demographics), Custom Audiences and Lookalike Audiences[10]. Google lists custom, in-market and affinity audience segments[3].
If you need a narrow professional audience, check that the platform names the attribute you need. Targeting is easy to over-value: a precise audience still needs an offer and a landing page.
Creative you can produce
Be honest about what you can make every month. Google Search ads are text[1]. Snapchat lists formats from single images and videos to Story Ads, Commercials and AR Lenses, and describes single image or video ads as recommended for new advertisers[9]. TikTok’s own description is full-screen, sound-on ads[11]. If nobody in your business can produce video on a schedule, that is a constraint for TikTok and a smaller one for Search. The guide on how to shortlist two paid channels turns this into a short list.
Budget and published minimums
Google explains that an average daily budget is the average you set per campaign per day, that the daily cap is two times that average for most campaigns, and that the monthly cap is 30.4 times it[2]. I did not find a minimum on the page I opened. TikTok’s page for setting up a first campaign states that a daily budget must be at least $50, and that a lifetime budget must exceed $50 multiplied by the days the campaign runs[12]. That is published by TikTok on the date I opened it, it may have changed, and you should confirm it in your own account. For the other platforms I did not find a minimum on the pages I opened, which does not mean there is none. Costs per click on Google are outside this site, and I make no claim about what any channel costs in the UAE.
Can you measure it
Decide before launch what counts as a result and where it is recorded. A channel you cannot measure is a channel you cannot learn from, however good it looks. Measuring your first paid channel sets out how I would do this, and the pre-launch checklist covers the set-up.
Pick two, start with one
Put your goal, buyer, creative capacity, budget and measurement into the picker, weight what matters most, and score each channel. Take the two highest, read each platform’s own pages for the objective you chose, and start with the one you can set up and measure properly. Then judge it on your own numbers for long enough to mean something before adding another.
- I would not choose a channel because a competitor appears to be on it.
- I would not start on three channels with a budget that fits one.
- I would not launch before I knew what a result is and where it will be counted.
If you would like help with the decision, my PPC management services are described on my own site. I sell them, so weigh my view accordingly.
